I always say "it doesn't kill to try" to people who are too egoist to say sorry or to start a conversation after they had go through some hard time with their friends or partners.

but, at one point, when it comes to me,

i would rather say, "it is so hard, indeed. if it doesn't kill to try, then i will die trying".

i am so full of myself when it comes to 'i-am-so-sorry' time.

i know i am the super-egomaniac one :(
